I chose the second essay I wrote for my showcase writing piece from this semester. This was the meal analysis essay, and we were supposed to connect the work of our peers with Pollan’s piece, “Out of the Kitchen, Onto the Couch”. The first draft of my essay had my major ideas present, but lacked a connecting piece to bring the entire essay together. While working on the final draft I made the connection between my peer’s essays and their idea of what home is to them. I then used Pollan’s piece to serve as contrasting point, and make the relationship between the two as a shift from one to the other. I felt as though this was the best essay I had written in this course because I worked hard to make sure that I engaged with the four different texts in a way that would make the most sense and with the most flow.
